Workshops in the sacred city of Wells, Somerset
at Wells Museum, 8 Cathedral Green, Wells,
Somerset, BA5 2UE
Vinyasa Krama Yoga and the Emergence of Yoga have been taught in Wells Museum, next to Wells Cathedral for 20 years. Stephen Brandon has taught hundreds of students here and brought legendary teachers in the Krishnamacharya tradition to this iconic location.
The Museum as a venue therefore has this rich yoga tradition established over years. It is a clean, large space with kitchen and garden for use in break times. After workshops you can wander out to see the sacred and ancient Wells Cathedral or go around the corner and see Vicar's Close, the oldest medieval in tact street in Europe.
When practising yoga though, you are encouraged to go within, focusing on body and breath. When you finish, you integrate with the world again, feeling more peaceful and whole.

about this workshop
Adi Sankara is one of the most revered Indian saints and founder of the Advaita Vedanta system. He wrote commentaries on Brahma Sutras, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. Many of his original works are available such as Upadesa Sahasri, A Thousand Teachings.
There are many references to Yoga meditation in Shankara’s main works. He also wrote two significant works on Yoga. The vivarana (commentary) on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and a concise text on Yoga called Yoga Taravali, which consist’s of 29 profound verses on the practice of Yoga.
Yoga Taravali was held in high regard by Yogacharya Sri T. Krishnamacharya and he offered interpretations on its verses.
In this workshop we will use practice and theory to explore the key themes in these texts and engage with the most profound teachings from the Indian tradition. The workshop will be practical in nature following verses from the text on pranayama, bandha, kundalini and meditation.

about this workshop
A Practice Day to bring together those inspired & enthused about authentic and ancient yoga, for the simple reason of feeling peace, alongside the more apparent benefits of yoga like relaxation, health and fitness.
There will be balanced practices put together from the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the major sequences, plus looking at some of those major ones in more detail. You will gain a greater understanding of Vinyasa Krama yoga – knowledge and inspiration how to practice at home and use this vast system to your benefit, individually.
We will also practice ‘mudras‘, important still positions held for longer, plus ‘Bandhas‘ (specific muscle contractions), both having a significant effect on body/ mind. Practices will culminate with meditation, aiming for peace arising naturally from your efforts.
This integrated approach gently energizes the body, focuses the mind, calms the nervous system and promotes physical and emotional health. It is true to yoga’s ancient roots. Do join me to go deeper in your yoga journey or start a new one.
Emergence of Yoga -
Yoga in the Tradition of Sri T. Krishnamacharya & Sri T.K. Sribhashyam
Yoga Seminar with Mrs Brigitte Khan
Following the Teachings of Sri T.K. Sribhashyam
12th – 16th August 2026
In practical and theoretical sessions the Seminar will clarify the role, aim and various elements of practice sessions presented in the book Emergence of Yoga. It will cover some essential practical and theoretical aspects of concentration according to the concept of Marma Sthana and will explore the technique and impact of meditation.
We will investigate some of the key elements a human life contains. Who are we really? What exactly is our ‘mind’ and is it telling us the ‘truth’? Why do we sometimes feel like turning around in a circle, not finding a way out? Why does our inner Peace keep slipping away?
We will try to find some answers by looking into the concepts of Klesha, the functions of perception and the mind, as well as the power of emotions and how to harness them to find lasting Peace. We will also look at how the various parts in the Practice of Traditional Yoga help and support us in facing the challenges related to the above questions, thus creating a bigger space in our lives for the spiritual search.
You will require a copy of the book Emergence of Yoga by T.K. Sribhashyam
