Sri T.K.Sribhashyam was born in Mysore (India) in 1940. According to the family tradition, Sri T.K.Sribhashyam studied Indian Philosophy, Ayurveda and Yoga under the transmission of his Father and Master T.Krishnamacharya. He taught Yoga from 1956, and in Europe in English and French since 1970. He was the founder of Yogakshemam Teachers' Training School in France and Switzerland. He was one of the main participants in the recent documentary "Breath of the Gods". He has published the following books: "Emergence of Yoga", "Moksha Mārga", and "Bhakti: Quintessence in Indian Philosophy" and "From Devotion to Total Surrender, Śaraṇāgati Yoga”.
The practices of T K Sribhashyam are represented largely in this book, "The Emergence of Yoga", as taught to him by his father. Their knowledge came from a lineage transmitted over 20 generations without interruption.
Krishnamacharya recounted the origin of Yoga and the Asanas (physical movements/positions) and Mudras (still positions) to his son during evening walks to the seashore, where they watched the full moon rise over the sea and also during pilgrimages together. He also explained the origin of Dhyana (meditation) at temples dedicated to Shiva and how the 16 vital points of the temple of Kalahasti correspond to the 16 vital points of the body.
These vital points become integral to Asana, Mudra and Pranayama (breathing) practices within the book, a unique aspect of this work. Also unique is the rest position between elements of practice, allowing the practitioner to absorb the previous element and maintain the mental state he/she has just 'gained' from the practice.
This form of yoga therefore is about focusing the mind, true to the real goal of yoga, Sattva (mental peace). This is a stepping stone to ultimately realise the true nature of the Self, the aim of all Krishnamacharya's teachings and the basis of yoga as explained in the Yoga Sutras and other seminal texts.
Stephen Brandon learnt directly from Sribhashyam including interviewing him about his books and Yoga. He set up a study group of students, passing on the practice and knowledge over several years. He also learnt from one of Sribhashyam's direct students, Mrs Brigitte Khan who has in turn been teaching the study group.
Seminars continue and the best opportunity to join the studies is August 2026 when Brigitte will teach a 5 day event, including an introduction to the book, and its practice and theory. See details on this page.
Mrs Brigitte Khan. In 1998 Brigitte discovered Yoga with a student of Sri Sribhashyam. The same year she joined the Teachers Training program of Sri Sribhashyam’s Yogakshemam School of Yoga and Indian Philosophy in Switzerland. She continued studying under his guidance for 19 years, and translated his English seminars in Heidelberg, Germany, to German, held seminars with his regular students in Athens, Greece, and accompanied his seminar in Wells in 2016.
Since Sri Sribhashyam left this world in 2017 she has held regular workshops in Malaga, Spain, as well as a workshop in Wells, UK. She says: “The immense gratitude I feel for all that I have learnt and received from my Revered Teacher and Guide expresses itself in the wish to share it, pass it on and let others benefit from it.”
